The war against women in the Democratic Republic of Congo

January 14, 2008 Leave a comment

This absolutely breaks my heart and disgusts me so much at the same time. We know that a civil war is going on in Congo, but something we rarely hear about is the fact that women are continually and systematically raped during these kinds of conflicts. We know it’s something that happens, but we don’t like to think about and don’t bother to think about it because we feel like we can’t do anything about it. Maybe there are a few more reasons that you can come up with! But nonetheless, it’s important to know that this is going on. I’m not going to quote a lot of the gory details here, because it’s graphic, but please read the article. It’s a must.

Anneka Van Woudenberg, who is the senior Congo researcher at Human Rights Watch, explains the raping that is occurring in Congo.

I think what’s different in Congo is the scale and the systematic nature of it, indeed, as well, the brutality. This is not rape because soldiers have got bored and have nothing to do. It is a way to ensure that communities accept the power and authority of that particular armed group. This is about showing terror. This is about using it as a weapon of war.

I honestly don’t have too many words about this. It is disgusting and disheartening to know that thousands of women are becoming victims of “femicide” because of this war. But even further really, these women are having genocide committed against them. Many people simply think that killing is the only definition of genocide and just think of Hitler, but according to the UN Convention on Genocide, one of the definitions is “causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group.” This is clearly happening, and it’s clearly intentional.

When will this genocide end? And why is it being ignored?

Devastating story of the day

This story is horrible, disgusting and sad. Overload of sad.

A 21-year-old Lincoln Park man faces rape and murder charges in the death of his 8-day-old daughter.

Christopher Ryan Richardson was arraigned in the afternoon on felony murder, first-degree criminal sexual conduct and child abuse charges. A judge entered a not guilty plea on Richardson’s behalf.

The Detroit News reports the newborn died November 24th from massive internal bleeding and sepsis, a blood infection.

Eight days old! Eight days! I don’t know what makes any human being want to do this. Rape his 8-day-old newborn baby girl? Someone tell me how this happens. Because I do not know.

Rape victim almost strangled to death

I hate hearing about rape stories, but new ones seem to pop up everyday. This one is from New Zealand, where the 21-year-old student was almost strangled to death by the rapist with a black nylon rope.

He tried to make small talk with her, then attacked her, Detective Senior Sergeant Steve McGregor said today.

The victim was dragged into a car park off Rattray St, where she was raped and repeatedly beaten about her face and body for two hours, he told Radio New Zealand.

“What is very much a concern is during the course of the rape it would appear that he has tried to subdue her by strangling her with a length of black nylon rope.”

At the end of the rape the man mislaid the rope but continued to manually strangle her, Mr McGregor said.

The police think it’s “lucky” that they aren’t looking at a homicide. Well, no, I don’t think that they’re necessarily lucky. This young woman is still going to be traumatized for the rest of her life, most likely.

Kids are growing up fast, it seems…

November 19, 2007 Leave a comment

This is a horrible story and a part of me doesn’t even know how this kind of thing happens.

Three boys, ages 8 and 9, were being held Monday in a detention center on charges of kidnapping and raping an 11-year-old girl near a suburban apartment complex, officials said.

However, the fathers of the boys are of course saying that the sex was consensual and the girl is just “blaming it on rape” because she “doesn’t want to get in trouble with her parents.”

However, the police are still investigating.

Acworth Police Chief Mike Wilkie said said one of the boys was accused of threatening to hit the girl with a rock before the alleged assault. Wilkie also said the investigation is “far from over,” and investigators are looking into claims that after the alleged attack, the girl talked about it with her friends at a slumber party.

It’s easy to not believe that this happened, but at some point we do need to put trust in girls. If a girl that age was accused of sexually or physically assaulting a boy, the boy would be believed. I don’t think that there’s any question in that. Girls are not trusted. Young women, and old women are not trusted as much as their male counterparts. Either way, this girl was traumatized one way or another and something like this will most likely stick with her.

It’s a sad case for her and for the boys that are being accused of this. When did kids stop being kids?

Electric-shock dog collared child abuse

November 15, 2007 1 comment

When I read this, I literally threw up a little in my mouth. Sick, sick, sick.

A grand jury will decide in early December whether to indict a Tennessee man on charges that he raped two of his daughters and forced them to wear an electric-shock dog collar. His wife may also face trial for failing to intervene.

Burkhart’s 17-year-old daughter told authorities in a Sept. 10 interview that she had been sexually and physically abused by her father, according to the complaint affidavit. “Among other things, her father [the defendant] uses dog collars equipped with electric shock to train his hunting dogs, and that he uses the collar on her to shock her and her 19-year-old sister,” the affidavit reads.

The 17-year-old daughter said that Wayne Burkhart had raped her over the summer, according to the documents, a claim that her older sister, 18, also made to police. In each instance, the girls reported that the father had sex with them without consent.

Honestly, this is one sick piece of shit. I can’t believe that anyone, let alone a father, would do this. And yes, their stepmother should have stepped in and done something, but hey, what’s to say he would have started abusing her if she did do something? There’s something seriously wrong with this man. Pretty much torturing your own children? Sick.

Another reason to be anti-Republican!

A former state lawmaker was convicted of raping two former foster daughters during physical examinations that he claimed would help them sell their reproductive eggs.

The jury on Tuesday found Ted Klaudt guilty of all four counts of second-degree rape after deliberating for three hours. Klaudt, 49, could get as many as 25 years in prison for each count when he is sentenced in January.

How sick is this? Only a deranged individual could carry out something like this. A physical “examination” of two former foster kids? And of course the defense says that they “consented”, but they were girls, and they were completely and utterly lied to. They weren’t giving any consent to anything that those “examinations” really were.

A “polite” rapist?

November 2, 2007 Leave a comment

In Australia, a man has been sexually attacking women (the article never says rape), while wearing women’s clothing. Three so far.

“His first words were `I’m not going to hurt you’. Then he asked me to undo my pants.”

The woman said her attacker was softly spoken and had a lisp.

“He had quite a distinct voice at the end of certain words, it was quite a gentle voice,” she said.

Kind of weird that he seems like a polite man, even though he’s a horrible man because he’s sexually attacking, possibly raping, several women. Police expect him to continue doing so, and are tryingn to link the crimes and figure out who the hell this disgusting man is.
